SEPANG (Sept 9, 2013): More than ten premises have been gazetted to house those detained under the 6P programme and Ops Cantas, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He however declined to reveal the locations of these premises, adding that they were "administrative issues."
"We have gazetted the places, we are going to catch more (illegals and secret society members)," said Ahmad Zahid in a press conference after attending a briefing with the Prison Department and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) on spiritual and counselling matters here today.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid also gave his assurance that tough action against officials within the ministry will be taken if they are found to be involved in the 6P programme scam.
"What happened at the Home Ministry and also the Immigration Department, whether the forged documents were taken out by insider officers or outsourcing agents, if it was not done legally, legal action will be taken," he said.
When probed further, he said there is an ongoing investigation and an announcement will be made once it is completed and necessary actions have been taken.
It was reported recently in an online portal that there have been complaints about the 6P foreign worker legalisation programme.
Ahmad Zahid also lambasted PKR for insinuating that the crackdown on secret societies was a ploy to boost his credentials ahead of the Umno party election.
"I do not need such cheap publicity," he said in response to PKR vice-president N. Surendran's comment.
Ahmad Zahid said the Ops Cantas crackdown was announced by the police while the list of secret societies was announced by his ministry's secretary-general.
"We have to separate between professionalism and politics. We have our (political) differences but we don't treat criminal cases as political issues.
"I am serious about this. The announcements, in terms of operations and administration, were not done by me.
"I could have done it if I wanted to, but I didn't want people to misconstrue it, so please stop," he said.
Ahmad Zahid said the ministry and the police are "colour blind", adding that their responsibility is to protect everyone.
"Cooperate with the police, we are colour blind, criminals are also colour blind. I am protecting everyone, not just Umno or Barisan Nasional (BN). I am protecting all Malaysians, so please-lah," said Ahmad Zahid who is defending his Umno vice-president post.
He also pointedly told his political opponents to "go back to school" if they could not understand what he was saying.
