KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has issued a stern warning against anyone trying to cause a strain in the good relationship fostered between Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
Zahid said he was aware that certain quarters were trying to use the "divide and rule" approach and create a rift between the Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi with Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem attend a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya.
Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, said the ministry together with the Federal and state governments would spare no efforts to defend and enhance the present relationship between Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia in developing the nation.
"This bond must continue to be fostered and enhanced not only on the administrations or politicians, but must also be nurtured among civil servants and figures representing non-governmental organisations," he said.
Zahid, who is on his maiden visit to the state as the deputy prime minister, was speaking at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya near here tonight.
A crowd of more than 7,000 attended the event.
