IPOH: Raja Kecil Sulong of Perak Datuk Seri Raja Ashman Shah Sultan Azlan Shah (pix) passed away after an asthma attack at 1.30am Friday at his home in Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur. He was 54.
He was laid to rest at the Bukit Chandan Royal Mausoleum here later Friday.
The remains of the second son of Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah was taken by a vehicle that left the Istana Iskandariah grounds at about 6.15pm on a 1km procession to the Royal Mausoleum located next to the Ubudiah Mosque.
Among the Malays Rulers who paid their last respects were members of the Kedah and Johor royal families.
National leaders in attendance included Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak , Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein ,Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi , Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz and Rural andRegional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal .
Raja Ashman was known to commoners as a pious prince, who kept a low profile.
A businessman, he held a degree in Economics from the University of Nottingham and a Masters of Law from Cambridge University.
He also held an ijazah or permission of investure in the Naqshbandiya Haqqaniya Order of Sufism from Shaykh as-Sayyid Muhammad Nazim Adil al-Haqqani, the Grand Mufti of Cyprus and Imam of the Naqshbandiya Haqqani Order of Sufism.
Raja Ashman was also a keen hockey fan and often accompanied Sultan Azlan Shah, who is the Asian Hockey Federation president, to hockey matches.
He was appointed Raja Kecil Sulong on March 16, 2010.
He leaves behind wife Datin Seri Noraini Jane Kamarul Ariffin , 53, sonDatuk Raja Ahmad Nazim Azlan Shah , 20, and daughters Raja Emina Aliyyah, 18, and Raja Bainunnisa Safia, 17.
