On Jan 1, 2012 Emirates will launch its A380 services from Kuala Lumpur, making it the very first commercial A380 operation from Malaysia.
With air travel due to almost triple in the next 18 years and continued constraints on traffic rights and availability of landing slots, larger-capacity aircraft such as the A380 are key to Emirates’ plans to meet increasing passenger demand.
Emirates is the largest single customer for the A380; it has 18 in fleet currently and another 72 on order.
Upgraded: The Economy class of Emirates A380 is more spacious and has seats that afford deeper recline and adjustable headrests for better comfort.
The airline selected the A380 because it is designed to be, and is now proving to be, the most efficient aircraft flying today. It carries more passengers and yet burns less fuel, therefore producing fewer emissions.
The Airbus A380 is the most environmentally advanced commercial aircraft, and Emirates will operate 90 of them — far more than any other airline.
The A380 burns up to 20% less fuel per seat than today’s next largest aircraft. It is more fuel efficient per passenger/kilometre than even a small family car. The aircraft operated by Emirates will offer fuel economy as low as 3.1 litres per 100 passenger/km.
The low fuel-burn means lower C02 emissions – the A380 produces 75g of C02 per passenger/km, almost half of the European emissions limit set for cars manufactured in 2008.
New-generation engines, combined with an advanced wing and landing gear design, makes the A380 significantly quieter than other aircraft — enabling this very large aircraft to meet strict local regulations at airports around the world.

Composite and other lightweight materials make up 25% of the A380 structure and Emirates is working with Airbus to further reduce the weight of future A380s. Think about this — some Emirates’ A380 versions are the equivalent of flying three A320s.
Another benefit of the A380 is that it has four high-level air outlets instead of the traditional two, which enables the cabin air to get refreshed every three minutes. Ultimately, this helps passengers to feel fresher, both during and after the flight.
The A380 is the world’s only twin-deck, four-aisle airliner, and it has a cargo capacity of up to 10 tonnes.
Thanks to the A380 having the widest cabin of any aircraft in the world, Emirates can fulfil the carrier’s promise of luxury. There are 14 private suites — each of which has a personal mini-bar, two shower spas, 23” digital widescreen TV and an onboard lounge in First class.
The Business class is equipped with seats that extend into a 2m-long flat bed, built-in mini-bar and 17” digital widescreen TV. Passengers here have access to the onboard lounge.
The Economy class comes fitted with new generation seats that have adjustable headrest and a sliding base allowing deeper seat recline. The in-cabin entertainment offers 1,200 channels on widescreen digital entertainment system. Overall, the cabin is quieter and more spacious, and enhanced with advanced mood lighting system.
Emirates A380s will operate in two configurations:
·low-density, long range with three-class of 489 seater; and
·low-density, medium range with three-class of 517 seater.
Emirates, which started flying from Kuala Lumpur since October 1996, operates three non-stop flights daily from the Malaysian capital to Dubai. It also has one service, non-stop from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, Australia.
